Love is at The Kitchen Table
30 sec sample [back to CD page]
I don't know why I read those notices ("she married him, he married her"): they make me think about the things we never had. These people they got money, some got fame, they all got fancy school titles on their names. They're already on the way to where they want to be. Their life reads like a stage that's set, all they've got to do is learn their lines, and I guess there is love-- but the paper didn't mention love. No one noticed when it was you and me. That's OK, 'cause that's the way we wanted it to be. I was nobody from nowhere, and you had less than nothing: we were too scared and broke to do any more than pay the fee. We didn't know where we were going, but we knew that we would get there together- all we had was love, but love's the most important thing. Love is at the kitchen table, love is on the telephone. Love is sharing life, love is sharing love. Sometimes love is work, then love will share the work, 'cause love believes that love, love, love-- love's the most important thing. What's this notice down here at the bottom of the page? These people look much too old to have ever been in love. The small print goes to those who celebrate the silver and the gold: It should be headline news when love survives. Were they just hanging on, or did they find what we're all looking for? Did they find out that love, love's the most important thing? Love is at the kitchen table, love is on the telephone. Love is sharing life, love is sharing love. Sometimes love is work, then love will share the work, 'cause love believes that love, love, love-- love's the most important thing. How do you know when it's right, how do you know when it will stay right? How do you know it's not a gamble with your money and your name? Now you and me we never wanted fame, the only titles on our name is "mom and dad", and if the house don't burn down, we got everything we'll ever need. But you are still the only thing that I just can't afford to lose: 'cause with you I got love, and love's the most important thing. Love is at the kitchen table, love is on the telephone. Love is sharing life, love is sharing love. Sometimes love is work, then love will share the work, 'cause love believes that love, love, love-- love's the most important thing.
